Wednesday we will be going to the book fair at 9:30 AM. If you would like to have your child buy books, then please make sure to send money with your child or use the online program to add money. The book fair has many of the children’s book award books to buy and these are great for at home reading or book clubs. Also, if your child still needs to get their current book club book some books can be found at the book fair. Sign and return papers were sent out on Thursday. Please sign and return these ASAP. There is a section at the bottom for students to reflect on their work. Please have them fill this out before returning back to me. Many of the work we have been doing in class has been turned in via Google Classroom so if you want to see all your child's assignments please have them login and show you their work. You can find our first cold read there as well as future cold reads. You can also find classwork assignments and see which homework assignments still need to be turned in. Homework is not graded on when it is turned in but more that it is turned in so if your child is missing a homework assignment, don't stress, just get it in as soon as they can. Students are now set up to use Flocabulary, and BrainPop for both classwork assignments and learning videos to review concepts taught in class. The Flocabulary and BrainPop assignments should be completed in class and will only be homework when an assignment is written in the agenda. However, students can feel free to watch the videos and do any of the other activities at home for fun if they want! This is another place we get some good classwork grades so if you want to see how your child is performing on assignments have them login to their account and you can go through their assignments together. Quizzes, essays, and tests will be assigned on Google Classroom. Please don’t worry if you are having any trouble getting on these to view, we will get there. Grades will NOT be impacted if there are any troubles. Also, students are beginning to post to Seesaw! If you are not connected and haven't used Seesaw in the past, please let me know at I will connect you. Feel free to give them feedback on their posts! Topics:
Upcoming Assessments Reading: Quiz on Summarizing/Main Idea, making connections and inferences currently planned for Friday 9/14. Writing/Grammar: Quiz on commas, quotation marks, correcting sentences and writing an introduction coming soon! Important dates / events:

Have a fabulous week! Jenn Shaffer Week of September 3Dear Parents, I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable long weekend! Now that Google Classroom is up and running we are learning what will help best communicate expectations to students and parents. Last year parents were not connected, but I think that is one of the coolest features, so we decided to connect parents this year. I love how awesome both students and parents have been about checking Google Classroom. I know we had some instances where parents were worried about missing assignments. I have now gone in and written classwork or homework next to assignments. If an assignment is classwork, it would be ideal for your child to complete the assignment in school. Reading: We will continue talking about making connections, drawing inferences, determining main idea, asking questions, visualizing, and summarizing the texts we are reading in class. This week we will work on determining the theme(s) of the books students are reading in class. Students will be working on reading their Book Club books and practicing the skills we are learning in class while reading their personal book. Language Arts: Students have been working on writing their first personal narrative about a small moment in their lives. Videos and other resources we have used in class are posted to our class website. I hope your kiddo enjoyed the bonus homework and got some time to play. If not, no worries, it was just for fun! In grammar students will continue to work on interjecting dialogue using quotations marks and commas into their personal narratives. Students have also been reviewing how to write complete sentences, compound sentences (using a conjunction), fragments and run-on sentences. They will work editing and revising their personal narratives this week and identifying these types of sentences will help to write an amazing essay! Upcoming Assessment Reading: Quiz on Summarizing/Main Idea, making connections and inferences coming soon. Writing/Grammar: Quiz on commas, quotation marks, correcting sentences and writing an introduction coming soon! Reminders: 1. Here is the link for registering to be a volunteer. You must be registered in order to come in to the classroom and help with students in any way. This includes classroom parties. Once complete, the registration is good for two years. http://www.fultonschools.org/en/community/Pages/VolunteerRegistration.aspx 2. Register On MySchoolAnywhere: It only takes 2 minutes!
